Valkyria Chronicles - Buy it NOW

So my buddy Noah IMs today:

"Hey Matt go buy this game, Valkyria Chronicles for PS3, it's hella cool."

"Pfff, I scoff at your recommendation!"

Flash forward two hours later I find myself in Gamestop while on my way to lunch, feeling myself compelled to buy Valkyria Chronicles, a game which until then I had only heard about in passing. I've played it for about three hours now, and holy crap, it's a damn fun game.

Valkyria Chronicles hasn't had any of the hype or marketing behind most of the "big" games that have come out lately, most of which I have found disappointing and bore with quickly. Drakes Fortune, Spore, Little Big Planet to name a few. However this game touches my gamer nerves in all the right places, and its the first game in a long time that has me not wanting to go to bed yet. It has a fantastic melding of turn base strategy, third person shooter, and RPG. It also takes place in an alternate 1930s Europe/WW2 conflict. What more could you possible ask for in a game.

Don't believe me? Go check out metacritic.com. It's getting a bunch of 90s or higher! In fact the very lowest score is 70 (the next lowest is an 80). Usually there is one or two snotty reviewers that tosses in 50 or 40 for gamer "street cred". Hell, the Force Unleashed on a good day got a 70.

The entire reason I am putting this on my blog is I want to spread the word around about this game, I am pretty sure its flying under the radar of most people. I want this game to do well because I already know I am going to want a sequel of it, hopefully with some multiplayer action added in. So go check out Valkyria Chronicles, I am fairly certain there is a demo of it in the PS3 store.

President Bartlet Gives Advice to Obama

I haven't posted any thing in awhile, been a little busy moving and settling into Southern California. Things are going well though, Vicki started her job a few weeks ago and we bought her a brand new 2009 Scion Tc, it's purdy.

What drove me to finally post something is a "conversation" from West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin between former President Bartlet and Senator Obama (written just before the debates), where upon Bartlet bestows some advice to Obama. If you never watched the West Wing you probably won't appreciate it as much, but if you're like myself this is the best thing I've read in awhile.
