By Price is Right rules, I win!

So all the locals tell me, "in the 15 years I've lived here, I've only felt two earthquakes!"
I don't know what kind of drugs they are on, but I just felt my ninth one in the less than I year I have been here (not to mention the three in one week right before xmas). I've been through enough now that I totally called the magnitude before it even got posted online! I guessed a 4.1, and wouldn't you know, it was 4.2, closest price without going over, I win!

Lucas Film wins Oscar!

So as you may have heard Lucas Film, more specifically ILM won an an Oscar for best visual effects for Pirates of the Caribbean 2. ILM hasn't won an Oscar in twelve years, so needless to say this a big deal for the entire company. On Tuesday the Hal Hickel and John Knoll brought home the physical Oscars and the company organized a little surprise party for them as they walked in the door. They handed out eye patches and champagne to all of us, and it was just all around cool to be part of the celebration, and to see the naked gold guy up close. Video of that party can be seen here:

And if that wasn't enough, last night they had another, more planned and organized party. They actually set up a red carpet into the dinning commons, with balloons, cut out silhouettes of onlooking people, and even cameras set up with motion sensors so as you walked by the flashes went off and the crowd cheered. Inside the party they was food and wine a plenty, and they had a huge display with the Oscars there to take your picture with. To top it all off George himself gave a little speech and they cut a Dead Mans Chest cake. Even if it was a project I had absolutely nothing to do with, its fun to get carried away with the energy and excitement from everyone else .
